ALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Beware, owl attack.
What began as an ongoing bit by Rachel Maddow about the attacking owl in a Salem park became a t-shirt and now an actual city sign.
The attacks have happened in Bush’s Pasture Park. One man, who was attacked twice, thought he was having a stroke or an aneurysm when the owl silently swooped down onto his head.
The barred owl attacked the jogging man at 5:30 a.m., one of three reported attacks.
Willamette University biology professor David Craig told KOIN 6 News the barred owls, related to the spotted owls, are normally found in rural wooded areas in the east. He and his students believe it’s just this one owl living in the park attacking humans rather than their normel prey like squirrels and birds.
After the third attack, park worker put up warning signs and suggested hard hats.
Now there are signs inspired by the MSNBC host, who thanked Oregon for providing a lot of news lately.
