Gabby Urenda is a digital enterprise reporter and joined KOIN 6 news in June of 2021 after working for the Pamplin Media Group in Washington County, Oregon.

There, Gabby covered the coronavirus pandemic, education, Beaverton City Hall and spearheaded Spanish coverage for the community. She also reported on solution-based education project stories to look into how COVID-19 has impacted underserved students at various grade levels.

Before moving to the Portland metro area, Gabby was a multimedia journalist for two years for KPIC and KVAL in Roseburg. She covered wildfires in rural Douglas County, the timber industry, crime and local politics.

Gabby began her broadcasting career at Duck TV Sports, the student run television station at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The Ducks fan later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and women and gender studies.

While attending college, she worked as a video intern for the University of Oregon’s athletic department and later became a production assistant for the Pac-12 Network.

Gabby grew up in Salem, where she was glued to the television watching KOIN 6 news during an icy morning before school. As a daughter of Mexican immigrants, she also learned Spanish from a young age and still speaks it.

You can find Gabby hiking, running or trying new restaurants in her free time.
