Josh Cozart joined the KOIN 6 News team as the weekend evening meteorologist in December 2022.

From the Great Plains of Wichita, KS to the Colorado Rockies, Josh has called many states home over the years. It was the wild weather of Kansas that made a meteorologist out of Josh at a very young age. The fear of lightning and tornadoes quickly turned into a fascination after surviving a night of severe weather in a tent as a fifth grader.

Oregon’s been the place Josh has called home since 2019. He was the Chief Meteorologist at KVAL and KMTR News in Eugene where he won an Emmy award and several nominations for his weather coverage in Western Oregon.

Before heading west, Josh spent time forecasting the weather and storm chasing in Quincy, IL. The national weather network of WeatherNation was the start of Josh’s career in 2015 while he was working on his meteorologist degree at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

When Josh isn’t forecasting the weather at KOIN 6 News, he’s photographing it. There isn’t a time you will catch him out and about without his camera taking photos of Mt. Hood or of the beautiful views along the Oregon/Washington coast.

Josh is no stranger to the Portland area. The Rose City has been part of Josh’s weekly stop since 2020 with his partner helping support the local LGBTQIA+ community and being involved in the charitable organization of The Imperial Sovereign Rose Court of Oregon.

Be sure to follow and share your weather photos and videos with Josh on all social media platforms for the latest weather forecast and fun TikTok science explanations.
