Meteorologist Steve Pierce joined the KOIN weather team in 2014, and is widely known as Oregon and Washington’s “go-to-guy” when it comes to fast, accurate historical meteorological research and forecasts. Steve is a third-generation native of Vancouver, Washington. His grandparents moved here from Iowa during World War II to work in the Kaiser Shipyards building liberty ships to support troops in the battle of the Pacific.

Since 2012, Steve is the President of the Oregon Chapter of the American Meteorological Society. Steve is also the owner of Northwest Weather Consultants (NWC) based out of Vancouver, Washington, which provides meteorological and climatological research and forecasts to clients across the Pacific Northwest. With access to the most extensive set of historical weather records available, Steve has personally designed and integrated a proprietary system that gives him the ability to quickly locate and manipulate weather data as far back as the 1800s.

Steve is always “watching out for you” when it comes to providing the area’s most accurate forecast. Those who are most familiar with Steve can attest to the fact that weather is his true passion. His love for “all things weather” began at the age of 7 when Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980. At age 11, he was asked to publish an extended weekly weather forecast for his elementary school’s newsletter. Steve attended Fort Vancouver High School, Mt. Hood Community College and Washington State University.

Steve always loves a classic Portland/Vancouver metro area snowstorm. From the Pacific Ocean to the valley, through the Gorge and into central and eastern Oregon, Steve says there is no better place to live. As Steve says, “don’t just love weather, live weather!” He considers himself a true weather geek and he is just fine with that label. In his spare time, Steve enjoys spending time with family, hiking, skiing, traveling and vacationing at his family’s coastal cabin. Steve has one amazing son, Hunter and his cat, Mercedes.
