PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 80-year-old mushroom picker who did not return from a foraging trip as scheduled was found after spending a night on Mt. Hood.
Akemi Takahashi, 80, is an experienced mushroom picker who was out foraging near Trillium Lake with a friend Thursday, Sept. 19. She was reported missing when she didn’t return to her car around 4 p.m.
Family members told KOIN 6 News she had left her phone in her car on E. Trillium Lake Road but she had a whistle with her.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said that whistle is what helped rescue crews find her Friday morning. She was found about 530 meters from her car just after 8 a.m.
Her daughter, Waka Brown, told KOIN 6 News Takahashi was “recovering well” by Friday afternoon and had only a few bruises from a fall. The family thanked the law enforcement and search and rescue officials for their efforts.
