BMW hits Milwaukie power pole, 2 arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The alleged driver of a BMW led Milwaukie police on a chase Thursday night that ended when he crashed into a power pole and then ran away.

The white BMW ran a stop sign at SE Harrison near 32nd around 9:45 p.m., police said in a release. When a patrol car tried to stop the BMW, the driver took off and then hit a power pole at SE Monroe and 74th.

The suspect, Daniel Schniedewind, ran off, but at some point he tossed a holstered handgun from the BMW. An initial search didn’t find the gun, but it was found when daylight arrived, police said.

As he ran, police said, Schniedewind tried to get through the back door of a house in the 7300 block of SE Thompson. Officers captured him near a garage at that house..

The passenger in the BMW, Brittany S. Jones, stayed in the car. The 25-year-old was arrested on an outstanding warrant and was treated at an area hospital for wrist pain.

Schniedewind, 26, was first taken to OHSU for a suspected overdose. He was later taken to the Clackamas County Jail and faces numerous charges: attempt to elude on foot and by car, reckless driving, hit-and-run, possession of heroin, trespass, attempted burglary and multiple traffic violations.
