PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Vancouver Police Department K9 that was caught on camera attacking at random bystander has been retired early.

Police were taking a man into custody near West 13th and Columbia Street in downtown Vancouver in September when it happened. The K9, later identified as Doc, darted from the patrol car toward a man standing across the street.

Video shows Doc run straight for the man and start tugging on his sleeves.

Police said the man was not related to their investigation that day. He was treated for minor injuries.

Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp confirmed Doc was put in remedial training but did not respond well, so he had to retire.
