Pedestrian dies after being struck by Amtrak train in Woodburn

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A pedestrian died after being struck by an Amtrak train Thursday night in Woodburn, officials said.

Woodburn Police said the crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. south of Cleveland Street. Witnesses told authorities the victim had gone around the downed crossing arms and attempted to cross in front of the oncoming train before being struck.

Saturday evening, he was publicly identified as 40-year-old Laureano Joronimo-Matias of Woodburn.

The incident is under investigation and no other details are available at this time.
