PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — From a galaxy far, far away…comes the limited edition parka inspired by the jacket work by the cast and crew of the 1980 “Empire Strikes Back.”
Super fans, take a look at the $500 “Empire Crew” parka.
According to the store, the unisex jacket pays homage to the even the smallest details of the original design. It features a waterproof, breathable and critically seam-sealed outer layer to protect against the elements while the thermal-reflective lining and insulation keeps you warm
The parka went on sale online at exactly 12:01 a.m. Friday — selling out within minutes. However, select stores across the world — including Portland — are carrying the jacket.
The Columbia store downtown Portland, 911 SW Broadway, opened its doors at 9:30 a.m. Some fans wanted to make sure they would be one of the few that got to purchase the coveted parka, so they began waiting in line on Wednesday afternoon — despite the chilly weather.
The Portland store is also carrying a handful of the parkas signed by Mark Hamill aka Luke Skywalker. Those jackets will sell for $1,980 with the proceeds going to charity.
This isn’t the first time Columbia has created Star Wars-inspired gear. Last year, the store fired up Star Wars super-fans with a line of winter coats inspired by the costumes of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo.
