Man arrested for DUII, crashing into Uber driver

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A speeding drunk driver crashed into an Uber driver in Northwest Portland on Sunday, sending 3 people to the hospital with serious injuries, according to police. 

Joshua Melu, 24, was arrested for DUII after police said he crashed into a vehicle in Northwest Portland on March 4, 2018. Three people were sent to the hospital. (KOIN) 

Joshua Melu, 24, was arrested for DUII and reckless driving and lodged in Multnomah County Jail. The 3 people in the Uber sustained non-life-threatening injuries. 

The crash happened right after midnight on Northwest 9th and Northwest Everett.

Portland Police said Melu, traveling at “a high rate of speed,” crashed into a black Mercedes belonging to a driver who worked for Uber. It’s not known if the 2 other occupants in the vehicle had hired the driver for Uber. 

Another parked vehicle was also hit, as well as the Tanner Creek Tavern.
