Man known for evading police arrested by PPB

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A wanted man with a history of eluding police was arrested late Friday morning, said Portland Police.

A Central Precinct sergeant spotted suspect Matthew Harris in the Pearl District around 11 a.m. as he got into a rental van. The sergeant attempted to stop Harris as he called for backup, and Harris tried to run. Assisting officers put out spike strips which flattened the tires in the rental van he was driving. Officers then boxed in the suspect at NW 14th Avenue and NW Flanders Street.

Harris was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Detention Center on multiple warrants. Portland Police said other charges are pending.
