Woodstock neighbors concerned over porch package thefts

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Melissa Cummings waited at her home in Southeast Portland’s Woodstock Neighborhood, but her package never came.

She checked her Amazon app. Apparently, her package, containing a new bed skirt, had already been delivered. She checked the time and went back through her front door security camera. That’s how she discovered a person had come up to her porch and stole her package before she even knew it was there.

“Somebody would come onto my property and come up to my porch and take something that wasn’t theirs,” she said. “It felt like a violation.”

It’s a common feeling in her neighborhood. After the theft, Cummings uploaded the video from her Arlo security camera to Nextdoor, a private social network for a person’s neighborhood.

“I had many responses from Nextdoor saying, ‘I recognize this woman. She walks this path everyday. I feel like she could be identified,'” said Cummings.

One woman in the neighborhood thinks the porch pirate has been in the area for years. She shared a screenshot of an image from 2 years before. The suspects look very similar, and even though it’s not known if it’s the same person, people in the area are concerned.

“This needs to stop,” Cummings said. “She’s just victimizing her neighbors.”

Cummings said she plans to use Amazon Locker Delivery. You can learn more about Amazon Locker Delivery here
