HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — What is billed as the largest master planned development in Oregon has finally put some key pieces in place.
The new area, which is referred to as South Hillsboro, lies just south of Tualatin Valley Highway and Cornelius Pass Road.
Cornelius Pass Road now extends south of TV Highway to Blanton Street and connects to 67th Avenue, (formerly known as 229th Avenue) and 209th Avenue. This also means a change in traffic flow onto TV Highway. Now, there is only one left turn lane from southbound Cornelius Pass Road onto eastbound TV Highway. The former second left turn lane now leads straight through into “South Hillsboro.”

Along with the new roads, 1,400 acres of former farmland are about to turn into housing, shops, schools, parks and trails for some 20,000 people expected to move there.
City of Hillsboro planning director Colin Cooper told KOIN 6 News its the local high-tech industries that are fueling the demand for housing in the area. With the rising cost of housing in Portland, more people are looking to live elsewhere.
Phase one of the project is already well underway with some homes set to be ready by Christmas. It will take 20 years for the master plan to be completed and eventually Cornelius Pass Road will extend even further south.
