Tigard police fatally shoot domestic violence suspect

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was shot and killed Wednesday night in Tigard as police officers struggled to arrest him on domestic violence charges, authorities said.

Officers were called out to the Edgewood Manor Apartments near SW Hall Boulevard and SW Bonita Road at about 4 p.m. Police tried to arrest 26-year-old Jacob Ryan Macduff, who was in his vehicle, but he refused to be taken into custody, according to Tigard police. Officers said Macduff was armed with a knife.

Police said an officer shot and killed Macduff during the struggle to arrest him.

No officers were hurt, officials said.

The Washington County Major Crimes Team is investigating and officials said any further information will come from the District Attorney’s Office.

No other details are available at this time.

‘A lot of screaming going on’

Brea Hogenkamp, who told KOIN 6 News Macduff and a woman lived in the apartment above her and her father for 2 years, talked with police Wednesday night.

“I knew there was fighting going on. There’s been fighting between him and his roommate for a couple of years,” she said. “I didn’t even hear the gunshots. My dad was the one who was home and he just thought there was loud banging,”

She said “the banging and stuff was totally normal” so she didn’t pay it a lot of attention.

“We could hear both of them screaming at each other. Yeah, there was a lot of screaming going on, a lot of the neighbors can hear it, too. The walls are very thin in the apartments.”

It was only when she and her father saw police block off the street did they take notice.

“We were kind of just, like, whoa, something’s going on,” Hogenkamp said. “They just said that there was a crime scene and we actually had trouble coming into our apartment. But, yeah, we didn’t really know what was going on.”

She also said she doesn’t think anyone should lose their life for any reason.

“I just know from knowing him and from him talking to me about all the stuff that went on between him and the roommate, it wasn’t very good. But I don’t think he would ever attack her and then have police attack him for attacking her.”
