PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 19-year-old man is facing an 18-count indictment after being connected to a shooting in Northeast Portland.
Austen Kenneth Herrmann was arrested by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 8 after robbery detectives in Portland identified him as a suspect in a separate robbery and kidnapping investigation.
According to the Portland Police, the robbery, kidnapping and shooting incident happened shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Nov. 28 in an apartment located on the 12200 block of Southeast Ramona Street. When police got on scene, they located a man who was suffering from a serious, but non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest. A second man had been assaulted, but refused treatment — saying he would get treatment later.
Police confirmed there were two other suspects connected to the Nov. shooting incident, Julian Booker and Devon Booker-Harris.
Police learned that Booker, Herrmann and Booker-Harris were invited to the victims’ apartment for a business transaction. When the 3 arrived, they attempted to rob the victims, which is when one of the men was shot and the other assaulted. It’s believed that Herrmann was the shooter and marijuana was the motive for the robbery.
With all 3 suspects in custody, police learned new information that they say links Herrmann to a shooting that happened on Dec. 3.
According to Portland Police, officers responded to the report of gunfire in the 11600 block of Northeast Knott Street. Officers arrived and located several vehicles and an occupied home struck by gunfire. No one was injured in the shooting.
Officers and detectives assigned to the Portland Police Bureau’s Gang Enforcement Team are handling the December shooting incident. Herrmann is charged with four counts of attempted aggravated murder, in addition to several other felonies.
He is expected to appear in court on Thursday morning to be arraigned on the new 18-count indictment.
