2 arrested after police find stolen mail in stolen car

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Two men have been arrested after police found a stolen car full of stolen mail in Sherwood on November 22.

Sherwood police Officer Randy Johnson saw a suspicious car in a Safeway parking lot and checked the license plate, learning the plates were stolen from a different car.

Johnson tracked down and detained 2 men who had been in the car. Coty Dingus, 25, and Corey Smith, 26, were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and theft 3. Dingus was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument as well.

The license plate and car had been stolen from Milwaukie and SE Portland, respectively. Police also found hundreds of pieces of mail that seemed to be stolen from all over the Portland metro area. Offices also found drug paraphernalia and an air soft gun in the car.
