200-300 potential jurors expected for Jeremy Christian

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The trial for accused MAX killer Jeremy Christian is beginning to take shape after another morning in court on Friday.

On May 26, 2017, Jeremy Christian allegedly went on an anti-Muslim tirade before allegedly stabbing to death Ricky Best and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, plus Micah Fletcher, who survived his injuries.

His defense team filed three possible defenses that they may present to the jury during trial: diminished capacity, guilty except for insanity or extreme emotional disturbance. They did not file a change of plea. Since the defense filed this motion, the state wants an expert to come and evaluate Christian.

Summons for a jury pool will be sent in April or May. On June 14, there will be a special panel in the jury room for the jury questionnaire, and officials expect 200 to 300 potential jurors to show up.

The prosecution and defense will begin making their case once the jury is selected.

But before the trial starts in Judge Cheryl Albrecht’s courtroom, another procedural court appearance is scheduled for April 15.
