911 kidnapping call leads to chase down I-205

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 911 call from a woman who said she was kidnapped became high-speed chase down I-205 from Clark County ended in Southeast Portland.

The man allegedly took his girlfriend from Portland to Vancouver, but she managed to escaped in Hazel Dell near Hwy 99, said Sgt. Fred Neiman with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. That’s when she was able to call 911.

A deputy arrived and saw the suspect’s car. The suspect, Brandon Jacob Gooding, took off and got onto I-205, as ODOT cameras caught the chase – with more than 10 officers in pursuit – from Clark County to Southeast Portland.

He was eventually stopped by Portland police at SE 92nd Avenue and Holgate. Witnesses said the moment when police collided with the suspect’s car was like a “firecracker.”

Several police cars and the suspect’s car were damaged, and two PPB officers were slightly injured. The suspect was also injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told KOIN 6 New they have never seen this amount of police presence in the neighborhood before. One man said he had never seen that many police officers with their guns drawn, “but the guy was hurt. They took him out of the passenger side.”

A civilian car was also hit in the process, but in a different location, police said.

Gooding, 25, was booked on charges of attempting to elude and a parole violation. The investigation continues and more charges are expected, police said.
