Bail bondsman guilty of kidnapping, assault

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN 6) — One of three bail bondsmen arrested in 2014 for overstepping their boundaries was convicted on all charges Tuesday.

Jason Stomps was found guilty of burglary, kidnapping and assault for the incident that took place on March 20, 2014.

He was arrested for allegedly going too far to catch wanted fugitive Courtney Barnes.

Stomps and two other agents broke the law when they entered a Vancouver home that day, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said.

Stomps, who is licensed by the state, and the two other agents said they had credible information that they could find Barnes at the home.

Court documents stated that Stomps knocked on the door of the Vancouver home repeatedly to alert the people inside who he was before proceeding to forcibly enter the home with the other two agents.

Once they entered, the agents, who are legally allowed to carry guns, detained the three people inside at gunpoint.

The fugitive the agents were after was never located, police said.

Sgt. Duncan Hoss with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said all three men broke the law when they forcibly entered the home.

The jury agreed and convicted Stomps on the charges.
