Corvallis killer used AR-15 in restaurant murder

CORVALLIS, Ore. (KOIN) – A convicted killer who used an AR-15 assault rifle to gun down a man outside a Corvallis restaurant was sentenced to life in prison Friday.

Michael Andre Deyette Jr., who originally faced an aggravated murder charge, pleaded guilty to murder and criminal conspiracy to commit murder in Benton County Court. He will be eligible to apply for parole after serving a minimum of 25 years in prison.

Deyette told investigators where to find the firearm and other evidence, Deputy DA Ryan Joslin said. The AR-15 matched the type of the 7 shell casings found at the scene. The case

On January 14, 2016, Jason Scott Williams and his girlfriend made plans with another couple — Brooklyn Farrell Shepard and Wayne Hintergardt of Forest Grove — to go to Shari’s Restaurant on Northwest 9th in Corvallis.

Shepard and Hintergardt picked up the other couple and drove to the restaurant. Hintergardt later told investigators Shepard made it clear she wanted the group at the restaurant.

Once there, Shepard invited Williams to step outside for a smoke. Williams’ girlfriend later told investigators she thought that was unusual because Shepard reportedly “hated” Williams.

Once they were outside, Shepard, Williams and his girlfriend had a smoke near the east side of the restaurants.

Shepard walked to her vehicle, got in for a minute and then walked back.

As she walked back, several rounds were fired and Williams was hit 4 times. He died at the scene.

Shepard was wounded in the right leg above the knee.

When police arrived, they spotted and talked with Deyette and got information. Later that night Deyette was detained and arrested the next day.

Shepard is the second suspect in the case and is charged with two counts of murder, criminal conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree kidnapping.

She is romantically involved with Deyette — who lived with Hintergardt at an apartment in Forest Grove.

Shepard will be in court later this month.
