Car crashes into ditch, bursts into flames after pursuit

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Following a police pursuit, a man crashed his car into a ditch which then burst into flames early Monday morning.

Anthony Colistro sped past a marked police car around 3 a.m. on Southeast Clatsop Street, going about 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. Once the cop car’s siren began to sound, Colistro stepped on the gas pedal and ran through a stop sign at SE Flavel Drive in an attempt to flee, continuing onto SE Harney Drive.

After police were unable to find the car on any surrounding streets, units circled back to check the area. They then found the car in question — crashed in a ditch.

Colistro was unconscious in the driver’s seat when they approached the car.

While trying to reach the 31-year-old, deputies noticed flames beginning to grow underneath the car. Once they had him out of the car, the flames continued to spread.

Colistro was sent to a nearby hospital while still unconscious. His current status has not been disclosed.
