Cousins killed in fiery 2-vehicle crash in Hillsboro

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Two young women died after a two-vehicle crash at the Sunset Square mall entrance in Hillsboro around 7:40 p.m. Thursday, according to the Hillsboro Police Department.

Police say a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed south on NW 185th Avenue hit another vehicle turning from the shopping center.

Officers told KOIN 6 News the car that was struck split on impact with part of the vehicle bursting into flames. Authorities said the two people inside the car were pronounced dead on the scene.

The two victims were later identified as 19-year-old Adriana Shelton from Sheridan and 20-year-old Aaliyah Shelton from Beaverton. Police say they were cousins.

Officials said the vehicle traveling south on NW 185th Ave. ended up 100 yards down the road after the crash. One person in that vehicle was taken to a trauma center while witnesses told police a second person in that car fled the scene.

Hillsboro PD said they called in a K9 unit but were unable to find the other person.

The serious crash shut down 185th Avenue between Walker Road and Cornell as crews cleared the scene.

TriMet announced cancellations following the crash including Line 52 to Beaverton Transit Center with no service to stops between NW 185th Ave. and SE Edgeway Dr. There’s also no service to PCC Rock Creek at NW 185th and Walker and NW 185th and McKinley School.

It is not yet clear what led up to the crash. An investigation is ongoing.
