PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The driver of a Tesla died after he lost control on Highway 26 in Clatsop County and hit an oncoming van just before noon on Saturday, the Oregon State Police said.
Fredrick Scheffler II was headed west in a Tesla Model Y when he crossed over into the eastbound lane near Necanicum. The Tesla hit a Hyundai Tucson van. The 49-year-old Portland resident died at the scene.
The van driver, 26-year-old Kyle Rieger of Warrenton, suffered serious injuries.
That part of Highway 26 was closed for more than 3 hours during the investigation. No further information is available at this time.
