Motorcyclist killed in Salem crash with Jeep

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a Jeep on Thursday morning in Salem.

The motorcyclist — 36-year-old Todd Dowty of Salem — died at the scene of McGilchrist Street SE and 19th Street SE, according to the Salem Police Department.

Early reports suggested the motorcycle collided with a semi-truck at about 7 a.m. but investigators said the truck was not directly involved in the crash.

Officers said the Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on McGilchrist Street when it turned left onto 19th Street in front of the motorcycle, which was traveling eastbound on McGilchrist.

The driver of the Jeep stayed at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation. No citations had been issued at the time of this report.
