3 wounded by gunfire at NW Portland restaurant

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three people were wounded by gunfire in a Northwest Portland restaurant after an argument became a physical fight Saturday afternoon, KOIN 6 News confirmed.

The argument between people who know each other began inside Everybody Eats PDX at NW 10th and Davis around 1:20 p.m., police said. Shots were fired inside the restaurant, then more shots were fired outside when the group fled.

The 3 people wounded — two teenage boys and a woman — were all part of the argument and fight, police said.

‘Literally boom boom boom’

Witnesses said they heard the shots popping off around 1:30 p.m.

Paul Bogdanich, who lives nearby said it was “literally boom, boom, boom — just like that, 3 evenly spaced shots really quick.”

Paul Bogdanich lives about a block away from Everybody Eats PDX, a restaurant where 3 people were shot. He could hear the shots fired from his balcony, September 4, 2021 (KOIN)

He lives a block away from the restaurant. “Our balcony is like, right there and just sitting in the house, just boom boom boom.”

The shooting happened just a block from the busy “Art in the Pearl” arts and crafts festival. One of the volunteers, Alex Cain, said he was finishing his shift and was walking around.

“I was just flabbergasted that someone would actually pull a gun and shoot some folks,” Cain told KOIN 6 News. “For whatever reason, everyone has a short fuse these days.”

He also said there were crowds of people who were out enjoying the art on the other side of the block.

“Lots of kids and families and people with babies and dogs, in the vincinity of an active shooter,” he said. “Scary stuff.”

One man was detained and a gun was seized, but at this time no charges have been filed, PPB said.

Investigators said there is no indication any bystander was struck by any of the bullets. Police tagged a broken window with an evidence marker.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PPB at: crimetips@portlandoregon.gov, attention: ECST and reference case number 21-246384.

It’s believed several people left the scene without talking to police.
