4 slain in SE Portland shooting ID’d; case remains active

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The names of the 4 men shot to death last week in a Southeast Portland home were released, and neighbors said two of the men were brothers.

The men were identified by Portland police as Mitchell Nacoste, 31, Kendall Gragg, 27, Donovan Lenford, 24 and 23-year-old Eyion Willis. All were found shot to death in a home on SE Boise Street June 6.

The investigation into their deaths remains open. Information about the relationship between the men has not been officially released.

‘They had just ordered food’

Neighbors told KOIN 6 News Nacoste and Gragg were brothers. The shootings happened inside Nacoste’s home.

One of those neighbors, a woman named Seeky, lives next door to Nacoste’s home on SE Boise Street. “They were amazing. They were always out here working on their cars,” she said.

The night of the shooting, June 6, she said “they had just ordered food. They were waiting for Uber Eats or Doordash to show up.”

Gragg, she said, spend most of his time at his brother’s house.

“We would literally chill every single night. We would bump our music and chill,” she said. “I always knew when I walked up or pulled up I would see Kendall smiling.”

Seeky said she doesn’t know Lenford or Willis, doesn’t know why they were there that night.

However, KOIN 6 News confirmed both men were from Texas, and each had felony convictions in that state.

Seeky said a lack of official information from investigators has rumors swirling, which is upsetting to those who knew Nacoste and Gragg.

“I’ve spoken to some of their family and friends and they’ve confirmed that the detectives on the case said that they’ve released no information to any sort of media, so anything flowing around is just rumors,” she said.

“People who didn’t know them personally are like, ‘Oh, this could’ve happened because, you know, drug deal gone by, whatever. But to people who know him it’s a shock.”

Last week, KOIN 6 News spoke with the owner of nearby establishment COFFEE BEER who said the episode has shaken the tight-knit neighborhood.

“The scariest thing is not knowing,” said owner Phillip Stewart. “During the press conference, the police admitted they don’t know who perpetrated this yet, who’s done it.”

There have been approximately 474 shooting incidents in Portland in 2021, according to PPB Lieutenant Greg Pashley.
