No arrests in NE Portland shooting that killed 2, injured 4

Editor’s note: Police said Wednesday they confirmed a fourth injured victim was hospitalized.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — No suspect has been apprehended after a shooting resulted in the death of two people in Northeast Portland early Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. on NE Milton Street between NE 82nd Avenue and NE 84th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found multiple gunshot victims — two of whom did not survive, police said.

Three other people were taken to a hospital by ambulance. Police later said a fourth victim was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Litzi Bolanos told KOIN 6 News a stray bullet hit her mom and another grazed her grandmother while they were heading out the door to work.

“She has a bullet in her arm, towards her wrist. We’re not too sure she’s still gonna have her arm. And my grandma was grazed in the head by a bullet,” said Bolanos.

Officers searched the area for suspects to no avail. No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.

A heavy police presence occupied the scene for several hours. By 5 p.m., NE 82nd Avenue had reopened between NE Sandy Boulevard and NE Klickitat Street.

Bolanos said her mom and grandmother will survive but it hurts her to see violence increasing in the area, especially when she doesn’t feel comfortable letting her 4-year-old child be outside.

“If I could say the truth, I feel a lot of anger. I grew up in this neighborhood and it was never this bad. It’s just ridiculous to me that people can’t solve their issues with words or physical altercations and have to turn to a weapon,” she said.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Stephen Gandy at Stephen.Gandy@portlandoregon.gov or Detective Jeffery Pontius at Jeffery.Pontius@portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0433.

The Portland Police Bureau said this marked the 57th and 58th homicide of 2021 and the same group of 16 detectives have been working on all of the cases without rest.
