Portland, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver allegedly trying to elude authorities collided head-on with an Oregon State Police patrol car early Friday morning.
According to Oregon State Police, deputies were attempting to stop a suspect trying to flee when a trooper positioned his vehicle on the southbound shoulder of Highway 47.
The trooper was prepared to deploy spike strips when the suspect, who was driving a white Honda Pilot that had already been hit with spike strips, came traveling north and crossed into the southbound lane — colliding with the OSP patrol vehicle head-on.
Authorities shared that the driver was traveling 118 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The trooper was out of his car at the time and walked away uninjured, OSP said.
Kevin Flanagan, 33, was arrested at the scene and is facing numerous charges including fourth-degree assault, recklessly endangering another person, second-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, driving while suspended, attempting to elude and five additional outstanding warrants.
A female passenger was also in the car, and deputies shared that she stated she was listening to the Washington County dispatch using an app on her cell phone. Authorities also said the woman stated she was pregnant and was taken to a hospital.
