PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Evidence markers littered a street in the Parkrose neighborhood after more than 100 shots were fired in the early morning hours of Sunday.
The gunfire erupted around 4:20 a.m. near NE 95th and Prescott. When police arrived, the shooters had already left the area. Investigators said the bullet casings are multiple calibers.
Four apartments and five cars were hit by bullets in the fusillade. Somehow, no one was hurt.
Residents in the neighborhood who spoke with KOIN 6 News said they are fed up with the gun violence — and on edge.
One man, who asked not to be on camera for safety reasons, said he and his wife hit the floor when they heard the gunshots.
“It was just pop pop pop pop pop pop,” he said. “I told my wife let’s get down on the floor because these walls, I mean, they’re thin walls.”
He said he’s tired of feeling uneasy in his own home.
“Those shots, you never know where they’re going to go,” he said. “It’s unreal.”
There have been 873 shootings in Portland in 2021, according to PPB.
This resident has one message for city leaders: “Get the place cleaned up.”
KOIN 6 News reached out to Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office for comment but have not yet heard back.
There is nothing on the City Council’s agenda about gun violence for this Wednesday’s meeting.
No arrests have been made. Police asked anyone with information to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Oregon referencing Case No. 21-254386.
