1 dead after shooting in NE Portland, investigation underway

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was killed in a shooting Northeast Portland on Thursday morning.

Portland police were called to the scene at Northeast 111th Avenue and Northeast Sandy Boulevard around 5:30 a.m. After arriving, officers found one person who was declared dead.

There is no word on the circumstances surrounding the incident, but there was a heavy police presence at the scene for several hours after the shooting. NE 111th Avenue was blocked to traffic south of NE Sandy Boulevard.

On Friday, Portland police released the identity of the shooting victim: 38-year-old Michael Epps Junior. The state medical examiner’s office ruled his death as a homicide.

When Epps’ family was notified of his death, they provided police with this photo.
