PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 65-year-old man was identified as the homicide victim found in the St. Johns area Monday morning.
Ricky Malone Sr. was found in the street at North Mohawk Avenue and Hendricks Street around 6 a.m. . Three surrounding blocks were closed during the investigation.
Malone died of a gunshot wound, the Oregon State Medical Examiner said.
Police initially said they went to the area on a welfare check. Malone was dead when officers arrived.
Investigators said they don’t believe there is any threat to the community but the case remains under active investigation.
