Man arrested after Hillsboro teen shot to death

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 20-year-old man has been arrested and booked on a manslaughter charge after a 19-year-old was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon.

Hillsboro police said there was a report of a shooting inside a residence at 1192 NE Grant St. just before 2 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Luis Diego Hernandez-Garcia dead inside.

Several other friends were inside when the shooting happened, according to police.

Officers later found two small caliber weapons.

On Wednesday morning, police identified the suspect as 20-year-old Ulizes Escobar. They believe Escobar and Hernandez-Garcia knew each other.

Due to the shooting, Poynter Middle School went into lockdown for about 15 minutes on Tuesday.

Neighbors came home to find yellow tape and flashing lights.

“I couldn’t believe it was happening right next door,” Nicole told KOIN 6 News. “It’s kind of scary.”

Larissa Asmus’ girlfriend lives in the duplex right next door to the shooting and said one roommate was home when at least one gunshot was fired.

“The kid just came out, he was covered in blood, I guess saying ‘call 911 help, help my friend just shot himself,'” Asmus said. “He was just basically hysterical, that is what [the roommate] was saying.”
