‘Monster’ bus driver sentenced for child sex crimes

TIGARD, Ore. (KOIN) — A former school bus driver — who described himself as a monster — was sentenced to 25 years in prison for multiple sex crimes involving two minors.

The Washington County District Attorney’s office said Kenneth M. Garcia was arrested in February after they learned he was abusing two young girls over an 8-year span in Washington, Clackamas and Clatsop counties. Deputies said he admitted to the abuse.

During the investigation, detectives learned Garcia was a bus driver employed by Student Transportation of America in Tigard. His bus route included Durham Elementary School and Hazelbrook Middle School in the Tigard-Tualatin School District. However, his employer suspended him without pay once they learned about the crimes.

Authorities added that no other victims have come forward since his arrest.

Garcia was later convicted of two counts of 1st-degree sodomy, 2nd-degree sexual abuse and 1st-degree unlawful sexual penetration. At least one of his victims was under the age of 12.

Garcia pleaded guilty on Nov. 30 and was sentenced on Dec. 7. He must also register as a sex offender for life and will be on lifetime post-prison supervision once he’s released.
