One person is dead and another wounded in a shooting in rural Washington County on Friday evening, deputies said.

The shooting happened at a home near SW Lepley Lane and SW Midway Road in unincorporated Hillsboro. Someone at the home called 911 just after 7 p.m. and when deputies arrived, they found one adult dead, and another with life-threatening injuries. The suspect had fled the scene, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they treated the injured person until a helicopter arrived to take that person to a hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

“There are several witnesses that we are interviewing at this time,” said Dep. Shannon Wilde. “The investigation is really early on. We’re still trying to identify all the people involved.”

Deputies said the weapon used in the shooting was not found in the home. They said the victims and shooter knew each other.
