PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The man shot to death inside a Salem Goodwill Wednesday afternoon was a 43-year-old man from Dallas, Oregon, the Salem police said.
Scott Gabriel Spangler died during the altercation with Officer Darren Buchholz of the Dallas PD. Buchholz is assigned to the Polk County Inter-Agency Narcotics Team.
The investigation into the incident is being led by Salem police. It’s standard protocol in deadly force cases for an outside agency to become the lead investigator.
On Wednesday, Polk County Sheriff Mark Garton said a man who was wanted for delivering drugs ran into the Goodwill after officers tried to arrest him in the parking lot. Garton said the man pulled a gun on the officers inside the store.
KOIN 6 News learned Gabriel has an arrest record dating back to at least 1996 for drugs, weapons, assault, robbery, theft and driving.
A spokesperson for Goodwill said the West Salem store will reopen no sooner than Saturday morning to allow for police to continue their investigation.
