Man dead after early morning shooting near South Portland hotel

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was found dead after a shooting near a hotel in South Portland early Friday morning, Portland police said.

Around 3:23 a.m. a large police presence responded to the area near the Marriott hotel on S River Parkway and Moody Avenue. About six to eight PPB units were reportedly called to the scene.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found a man deceased in a vehicle. A KOIN 6 News crew said evidence markers were scattered around the vehicle.

The area near the shooting was blocked off all morning while authorities processed evidence such as bullet casings and examined two vehicles involved — one struck with bullets, and a shattered window.

Officials identified the victim as 22-year-old Sircharles Jones on Thursday, May 12. He was reportedly working as a security guard at the time of his death.

Police said no arrests have yet been made and no suspects were immediately found. Police also noted they do not believe the shooting is related to an overnight shooting in Tigard.
