Stolen ice cream dispute leads to brutal attack

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Chevron clerk was attacked by a group of people Monday night as he was closing the store on 148th and Stark — and the incident was caught on camera.

Surveillance video shows someone barging in and then jumping on the counter before punching the clerk, Ryan. Four more people follow and begin tearing up the store, stealing tobacco behind the counter.

After a serious struggle, Ryan is able to get them out — only for them to come back with even more aggression. Ryan is seen defending himself yet again, but they all gang up on him and start punching him in the face.

According to the store owner, Ray Abedini, the people committed this brutal attack a day after the clerk scolded one of them for stealing ice cream.

Abedini said it wasn’t about the money, Ryan was just trying to teach them the principle of not stealing. Abedini added that he feels terrible about what happened.

“He’s like my son,” Abedini told KOIN 6 News. “My heart breaks down because how could a human do this to another human — even another animal. It’s unbelievable.”

The attackers sent Ryan to the hospital and caused more than $1,000 in damage. A GoFundMe has been set up for Ryan.
