PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Jared Walter, known over the years as the TriMet Barber, will spend one day shy of a year in jail and be on probation for 5 years for what he did to 2 women who were riding on TriMet.
Walter cut and glued women’s hair on trains and buses across the metro area as well as performing other sexual acts.
He admitted to 4 misdemeanors — 2 counts of harassment and 2 counts of interfering with public transportation. Several other counts were dismissed.
He must also undergo sex offender and mental health evaluations and write apology letters to his victims. He is already a registered sex offender and he has been banned for life from TriMet — the first rider ever permanently banned.
The ban also prevents him from loitering within 50 feet of any TriMet stop or station.
In a statement released by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, one of the victims said:
“I support the resolution because of the protection measures that are going to be in place. I am thankful for all of the work that everybody has done to get this case taken care of. I’m thankful for the ban [Walter] has on TriMet, and the stipulations in place that say he can’t go near platforms. That all makes me feel good because I still rely on public transportation. I actually feel more comfortable now because we don’t have to go to trial.”
