PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Washington County’s first shooting call of 2020 came after a woman shot through her own phone and into her neighbor’s bedroom in what may have been a selfie-gone-wrong.
Deputies responded to the call at a condo building in the 16000 block of NW Chadwick Way in the North Bethany area.
It wasn’t clear what the woman was doing with the phone when she shot it but deputies said she appeared to be holding it in a selfie-like position based on the angle.
The woman’s neighbor was reportedly home but was not in the room that was on the receiving end of the bullet. No person was hurt — but the same couldn’t be said for the phone.
Deputies identified the woman as 35-year-old Rosemarie Ancharski. She was arrested on charges of reckless endangering and unlawful use of a weapon.
‘Definitely different’
Neighbor Michael Randall told KOIN 6 News he and his family were watching a movie on Tuesday night when they heard a loud sound.
“It was real short,” he said. “It was odd; it was only a single firework and that’s what we thought was happening because it was New Year’s and typically people light fireworks.”
Randall said the incident was unusual for the area.
“It is kind of odd in this neighborhood for someone to be taking a selfie with a gun in hand and shooting it off. So that’s definitely different,” he said.
Another nearby neighbor was glad no one was hurt.
“It’s kind of scary when you hear things like that because you don’t anticipate anything like that would happen to you so I’m happy that we are all safe,” said Jennifer Jiang.
