PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Wilson High School’s principal has resigned just weeks before the end of the school year.
In a letter sent home to families, Assistant Superintendent Joe LaFountaine said Maude Lamont would no longer work at Wilson. Portland Public Schools leadership confirmed an investigation is underway into Lamont’s actions at the school.
The investigation does not involve students or staff.
In a statement, PPS officials said they “are aware of the allegations and are taking all appropriate steps to address them. It is a confidential personnel matter so we are not able to discuss details.”
Wilson started the 2018-2019 year in a similar boat when Principal Brian Chatard left the school in late August.
“With only a few weeks left in the school year, I know this change in leadership is an unfortunate bookend to the start of school back in September,” LaFountaine wrote.
Lamont was a vice principal before acting as principal this year. LaFountaine said officials are finalizing details for a transition in leadership but “Wilson will have an experienced administrator in the building every day until the end of the school year.”
Filip Hristic is due to take over as principal next.
On Tuesday, Cleveland High School Principal Ayesha Freeman wrote to parents she will step down in July to spend more time with her family. This comes after some staff reportedly sent a vote of no-confidence in her to the district.
