Expect rolling slowdowns on I-84 in the Columbia Gorge

ODOT will conduct rolling slowdowns this week on I-84 as crews remove the lane restrictions in place near milepost 52 at Shellrock Mountain. About a mile stretch of I-84 has been down to one lane in each direction at this location since the Eagle Creek Fire in September. Now that crews have cleared the debris from the adjacent Shellrock Mountain, crews will restore I-84 to two lanes in each direction by Friday, December 1.

Rolling slowdowns will create short windows without traffic allowing crews to safely remove temporary concrete barriers and restripe the highway. Each rolling slowdown could create a 20 minute delay for drivers. The slowdowns will take place as needed throughout the day Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, mostly from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The right lane of eastbound I-84 will remain closed for about a mile at milepost 53 through December for the construction of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail segment from Wyeth to Lindsey Creek. The closure is scheduled to be lifted December 18.
