BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A 36-year-old woman died after a car was speeding down SW Farmington Road and crashed into a tree.
Beaverton police said an officer witnessed the car driving westbound near SW 42nd shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday. As the officer tried to catch up to the car, it crashed head-on into a tree near the intersection of Farmington Road and Murray Boulevard.
The car hit the tree so hard that it removed the engine and front axle from the vehicle. The engine came to rest five lanes away from the car.
Police said Jonathan Guzman, 21, and Ariana Salgado-Gaudarrama, 36, were in the car at the time of the crash. Salgado-Gaudarrama suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
Guzman was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to police, Guzman showed signs of impairment.
The 21-year-old man was released from the hospital Monday, which is when officers took him into custody.
Guzman was lodged at the Washington County Jail and charged with manslaughter, DUII, criminal mischief and reckless driving.
