Fundraiser held to support Wilsonville fire victims

WILSONVILLE, Ore. (KOIN) — Local residents and businesses in Wilsonville have joined forces to fundraise for the 25 people who were forced to flee their homes in the wake of Sunday’s catastrophic fire.

At least 20 homes were destroyed in a fire that started overnight March 31 in a Wilsonville apartment complex. (KOIN)

The blaze destroyed a 4-story apartment complex under construction and damaged nearby homes in the 11000 block of SW Collina Lane in the early morning hours.

Lux Sucre Desserts in Wilsonville held a fundraiser Tuesday afternoon — a day the bakery isn’t normally open.

The bakery’s staff baked hundreds of cookies and cupcakes and said 100% of the proceeds would be donated to those displaced by the fire.

And, thanks to such an immense outpouring of support, Lux Sucre Desserts also held a raffle with prizes to collect even more money for fire victims and set up donation bins for items like pet supplies and makeup.

The owners of the bakery said they were overwhelmed by the community’s generosity.

“Carloads of stuff that we’ve taken, money that’s walking in left and right,” said owner Chanelle Walters.

Walters added that one person in California called to say they were sending a $1,000 check to help.

Lux Sucre Desserts wasn’t the only local business collecting donations.

So many donations poured into Quench Taproom that the business reached its donation capacity and staff working to distribute them as quickly as possible.

A car dealership that wanted to remain anonymous also gave out loan cars for free to people whose vehicles were torched.

A GoFundMe page was also set up with a goal to raise $25,000 for the fire victims.

Fire investigators were on the scene to search for evidence Tuesday. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
