PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon recorded its most-ever weekly number of confirmed/presumptive cases of COVID-19 in the week that ended October 11, which also saw deaths, hospitalizations and positive test rates rise.
An 18% jump in coronavirus was recorded in the week of October 5-11, officials said. That week, 2418 cases were recorded. The number of Oregonians newly tested that week rose 26% and, of those, the positive tests rose to 6.4% (up from 6.3%). Also, 27 people died that week, two more than the week before.
Hospitalizations from coronavirus also rose, officials said. That week, 147 people were hospitalized, up from 119 the week before — and the highest since mid-July.
Daily numbers
Another 390 new cases were tallied Wednesday. The latest data put the state’s coronavirus death toll at 608 and the total number of infections at 38,160.
Three more Oregonians died due to the coronavirus, according to the Oregon Health Authority, bringing the overall death toll to 608.
All 3 victims reported Wednesday had underlying medical conditions: a 93-year-old Multnomah County man, an 80-year-old Wasco County woman, and an 82-year-old Washington County woman.
Once again, Multnomah County (88) had the most daily cases, though Marion (63) and Lane (60) also had high daily totals.
The other 20 counties with confirmed cases are: Benton (3), Clackamas (27), Clatsop (1), Columbia (1), Coos (3), Crook (2), Deschutes (7), Douglas (8), Jackson (28), Jefferson (2), Josephine (2), Klamath (2), Lincoln (2), Linn (5), Malheur (11), Polk (4), Umatilla (14), Wallowa (1), Washington (51) and Yamhill (5).
