Heroin, cash seized in NE Portland bust

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A heroin bust in Northeast Portland Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of three people by undercover detectives who witnessed a drug deal.

More than a pound of brown Mexican tar heroin and approximately $15,000 in cash were seized in the bust outside a local tire shop at NE 82nd and Prescott, Lt. Dangler with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department said.

The undercover detectives saw a drug deal take place and moved in, Dangler said.

Some of the suspects were involved in a known drug ring that operated in Clark County and Multnomah County, officials told KOIN 6 News.

Sergio Alvarez Eligio, 27, and Albert Champagne, 47, were arrested on charges of unlawful possession of heroin and unlawful delivery of heroin. A suspected customer, 40-year-old Frederick Deiner of Gresham, was also arrested and charged with unlawful possession of heroin and unlawful delivery of heroin.

“Obviously the way it was packaged in ounce amounts and smaller, a lot of it was for sale here, and so it’s going to stop a lot of heroin from getting on the streets in this part of Portland,” and undercover officer said.

Investigators have not determined whether or not the tire shop was involved in the drug trade at this point.

The three suspects are being booked in Multnomah County Jail on numerous charges.
