Killer admits 1988 murder of Lake Oswego couple

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — In 1988, Doug and Rozina Anderson were on a camping trip in Northern California when they were shot multiple times. The murder of the Lake Oswego couple remained unsolved.

Until now.

A man already behind bars for rape and murder confessed to their killings. John William Kelley was awaiting sentencing for a 1986 sexual assault and murder when he admitted to the crime.

Kelley agreed to confess if the family of the Andersons promised not to seek the death penalty.

Rozina’s brother, Dave Rousett, tells KOIN 6 News the couple was killed because Kelley was in a bad mood.

“I’d tell him, I just think you need to understand that when you’re in a bad mood, you can destroy other people’s lives.”

Rousett says this brings some closure, but the painful memories are still vivid — as if the murder happened yesterday.
