MANZANITA, Ore. (KOIN) — Bumpers flew. Shingles crashed. Buildings heavily damaged.
Judson Moore and his wife had only seconds to reach safety when the tornado warning sounded in Manzanita Friday morning.
“We were working in the shop this morning,” Moore told KOIN 6 News. “We ran back into our bathroom, shut the door and locked it and you could just feel the whole building shaking.”
The tornado that hit Manzanita was one of 2 confirmed tornadoes that hit the Oregon coast, the National Weather Service said.
John Keagle got the tornado warning on his phone.
“It was just mist and debris swirling in a circular pattern,” Keagle told KOIN 6 News. “This was right on top of us. I’ll never forget that sound. It was like a freight train.”
Mother Nature didn’t mess around.
“I saw the front bumper of the van lift up and I watched it dive into the side of my RV,” Keagle said.
A firefighter said they “probably have nearly 80 trees down.” A police officer said, “There are multiple buildings that are heavily destroyed.”
The windows at Jeff Kyriss’s home were blown out.
“We got the warning a minute, a minute-and-a-half later it came blowing through and it was over real quick,” he said. “It was a horrifying experience.”
Somehow, no injuries were reported.
