Meteorologist Sally Showman says farewell, for now

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Her first day at KOIN was almost exactly 6 years ago — July 5, 2011. Now, KOIN 6 News Meteorologist Sally Showman signed off the air Friday.

“I was excited and nervous and I had the feeling that Portland would be my forever home. Ken Boddie was with me that first show, so it’s wonderful to have him with me on my last show.”

Sally “wore many hats at KOIN,” from reporter to weekend weather anchor to morning meteorologist. She’s connected with viewers through pets, her charity work, public appearances and speeches. And she plans to continue with all of that.

She’s staying in Portland. “I want people to know I will still be in Portland and I also would love it if you follow me on Facebook and I will be posting along the way,” including, she said, her wedding and honeymoon pictures in August. “Please follow me on Facebook and Twitter, whatever is best for you. I am WeatherGalSal.”

Fighting back tears, she talked about her co-workers.

“Ken is the consummate professional. He is everything that you think he is. He cares so deeply about the community. Carly is a friend who will always answer the phone, whenver you call. Jenny is my fun friend who manages to raise daughters, do charity work and work here at KOIN. You guys have become some of my best friends. I love you so dearly, I love everyone behind-the-scenes.”

She will stay in Portland and will get married in August. Her fiance’ Rob joined her on the set shortly before 7 a.m.

“I’m going to miss you guys and all of you at home. I know that we will stay in touch.”
