Powerball numbers drawn, $1.6 billion on the line

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — With $1.6 billion at stake, the focus of the nation was on the Powerball drawing Saturday night.

The winning numbers drawn on Saturday, November 5, 2022 are: 28, 45, 53, 56 and 69. The Powerball was 20. The Power Play multiplier was 3X.

It is too early to know if there are any winners in Oregon or elsewhere. But that didn’t stop people who spoke with KOIN 6 News from sharing their thoughts on what they’d do if they won.

“I would hope that I would make sure my friends and family don’t have debt anymore. That would be my Number 1 goal,” said Patrick Delsid.

Luke Milos had a slightly different idea. “Probably open a cat cafe or something like that. And then just use the money to help people. That’s what I would do with it.”

Allie Hewitt wasn’t sure, exactly. “There’s so many things you could do with it. It’s amazing.”

And though the odds of winning are astronomically long, Delsid said there’s always hope with fingers crossed.

“It’s important that everybody keeps perspective and knows that a $ 1.6-billion jackpot doesn’t mean much to anybody else besides one person out of the hundred million people that are trying,” he said.

The jackpot, which has a lump-sum option of an estimated $782.4 million, “breaks the world record for the Largest National Lottery Jackpot in the Guinness World Records,” the participating California Lottery tweeted.

There have been 39 consecutive drawings since the last Powerball jackpot winner, one of the longest runs in history, just under the record of 41 drawings in Oct. 2021.

Saturday’s drawing took place at 7:59 p.m. PT. Players bought tickets right up until the time they couldn’t buy them anymore — 7 p.m. PT.

After a drawing takes place, if no one wins players can begin buying tickets again as early as 8:15 p.m.

Just because the Powerball Jackpot hasn’t been won doesn’t mean that there haven’t been winners though. One Oregonian just won a $1 million prize in the last drawing. That same day, two winning tickets worth $50,000 each were purchased in Portland and Troutdale.

The largest Lotto prize won in Oregon was a $340 million jackpot in 2005.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
