PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An Aloha woman decided to join the Navy nine years ago to set a good example for her three younger siblings.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Kaila Lammert is an information systems technician working out of the Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) in San Diego.
She also teaches IT courses to other “information warriors” to help defend the United States on a global stage.
The IWTC command in San Diego is part of the Center for Information Warfare Training domain at the Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station in Florida. The CIWT oversees about 200 courses that train up to 22,000 enlisted intelligence specialists as well as cryptologic, information systems and electronics technicians every year.
“I am a course supervisor at IWTC, I oversee all the course material that the students receive and to ensure that the information stays relevant,” Lammert told the Navy Office of Community Outreach. “I also manage the instructors that teach the course that I supervise.”
Lammert was recently named Junior Sailor of the Year — an accomplishment she’s very proud of. The 2010 graduate of Hillsboro High School credits many of the lessons she learned at the school for her success in the Navy.
“I love the Navy, serving in the Navy means everything to me,” said Lammert. “I am very passionate about the military, all branches of the military bring something to table and I am honored to be able to wear the uniform and serve my country.”
